Nasrallah: Israeli atrocities in Gaza awakened human conscience in West

The secretary-general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement has strongly denounced the Israeli regime’s onslaught against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the brutal aggression has awakened human conscience in the West.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah made the remarks at Sayyed al-Shuhada Complex in Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh neighborhood on Sunday evening.

He was addressing mourners on the second night of the Islamic lunar calendar month of Muharram, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon Him).

“The appalling and unprecedented crimes being perpetrated by Israel in Gaza have awakened human conscience in the West. Those who close their eyes to the unfolding crimes in Gaza have a stern and cruel nature,” Nasrallah noted.

The Hezbollah chief also reiterated his group’s steely determination to support Palestinians in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip and the Palestinian cause, stressing that fighters from his movement involved themselves in Operation al-Aqsa Storm against Israel for that reason.

“We hear from anyone allied to us that we are standing on the right side of history,” Nasrallah said, emphasizing Hezbollah’s full preparedness for a military confrontation with the occupying Tel Aviv regime.

Hezbollah has fired 60 Katyusha rockets at Israel’s strategic Meron Air base, destroying of part of the surveillance base’s equipment and causing a fire inside it.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nasrallah pointed to the mounting tensions along the border between Lebanon and the northern part of the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories, stressing that Hezbollah is now at the core of Operation al-Aqsa Storm.

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging deadly fire since early October last year, shortly after the regime launched a genocidal aggression against the Gaza Strip following a surprise operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group.

The Lebanese resistance movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory attacks as long as the Tel Aviv regime continues its Gaza war, which has so far killed at least 38,514 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 87,000 others.

Hezbollah officials have repeatedly said they do not want a war with Israel, while stressing that they are prepared in case it occurs.

Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem said on July 4 that an expanded war with Israel is not likely soon, but his group is fully prepared for the worst-case scenario.

“The movement does not build its military position according to political analyses, but rather according to information and field results,” he told the Arabic service of Russia’s Sputnik radio station.
