The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it is fully ready to promote interaction and cooperation with the administration of Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.
In a message on Saturday, IRGC Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami extended his congratulations to Pezeshkian, a seasoned Iranian parliamentarian, over his success in winning Iran's presidential runoff on Friday.
As a revolutionary and popular force, he said, the IRGC will continue its strategy to cooperate with the administration in line with its legal missions and duties and based on macro policies announced by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to meet the country's requirements.
He praised the "enthusiastic" participation of the Iranian people from all walks of life in the polls who created this "political epic".
Salami emphasized that the voters once again mortified the enemies of the Islamic Revolution and thwarted the sinister plots hatched by the Western-Zionist media empire to boycott the election.
The IRGC chief expressed confidence that the mobilization of all national capacities and opportunities will lead to Iran's victory in the face of the enemies' economic war.
By relying on domestic capabilities and safeguarding the Islamic establishment’s power in the international arena to restore the Iranian nation’s absolute rights, the country will be able to shine in the world, he pointed out.
Pezeshkian received more than 16 million votes (about 53.6 percent) against former nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili with more than 13 million (about 44.3 percent) out of over 30 million votes cast, with the voter turnout standing at about 50 percent, electoral authorities said.
The 69-year-old heart surgeon entered politics first as the country’s deputy health minister and later as the health minister.
In 2006, Pezeshkian was elected as a lawmaker representing Tabriz in northwest Iran. He later served as a deputy parliament speaker described by many as an “independent” politician, a label that was embraced by Pezeshkian in the campaign.
