Iran's Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani says the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation should promote constructive interaction among independent bodies based on multilateralism.
Bagheri Kani made the remarks in a Monday meeting with the D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, who is in Tehran to take part in the 19th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) ministerial meeting.
He said the D-8 needs to play an active and innovative role in various economic and commercial sectors in order to help its member states meet their interests.
He further called for the D-8 more dynamism to promote synergy among the member states in order to achieve the organization’s goals and materialize its plans.
He further hailed a recent meeting of the D-8 foreign ministers in the Turkish city of Istanbul with a focus on the Zionist regime’s crimes against the defenseless people of Palestine in Gaza.
The meeting exposed firm determination of the D-8 member states and its high capacity to play a role in important issues in the Muslim world and across the globe, Bagheri Kani said.
The D-8 secretary general, for his part, said Iran plays an active role in the organization and the ACD.
Abdulqadir Imam expressed hope that the ongoing ACD meeting in Tehran will bear fruit and serve the interests of the member states.
He also elaborated on the plans on the D-8 agenda, especially in the economic and financial sectors, and welcomed Iran’s readiness to have close cooperation with the organization.
In a statement to the opening session of the ACD foreign ministerial meeting in Tehran, Iran’s interim president Mohammad Mokhber said the era of unilateralism is coming to an end and a new multilateral order is emerging in the world. The statement was read out by Iran’s interim foreign minister.
