France's decision to deport Iranian national illegal: Top rights official
Iran's top human rights official has strongly condemned a decision by a French court to deport Iranian national Bashir Biazar as illegal and a violation of his human rights.
In a post on X on Monday, Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights, also questioned the legality of Biazar's continued detention by French authorities even though he is not legally banned to exit the country.
"Given that Bashir Biazar's return ticket is ready and there is no legal ban on his departure, why is France continuing the arbitrary detention of this Iranian citizen? We strongly condemn this course of action," he said.
Biazar, an Iranian music maestro and filmmaker, has been in prison for two weeks following his arbitrary arrest for pro-Palestinian activism.
A French court has ordered him to leave France, where he currently resides, within the next 28 days.
He has been accused of “supporting terrorism” and “causing discord in the community” over his advocacy of the Palestinian cause and opposition to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran will continue efforts to secure Biazar's freedom through all available channels.
