Iran: Promotion of economic ties will further enhance political relations with Iraq
Iran's interim President Mohammad Mokhber says the promotion of economic relations with Iraq will further enhance political ties between the two countries.
In a phone call with Iraq's President Abdul Latif Rashid on Sunday, Mokhber said the Iranian and Iraqi nations enjoy inseparable and deep-rooted bonds.
He added that removal of obstacles in the way of cooperation between the two countries' private sectors will pave the way for strengthening mutual ties in the economic sector.
The interim president expressed confidence that Tehran and Baghdad will further increase economic and trade interactions given the measures conducted by Rashid and the late Iranian president Ebrahim Raeisi.
Mokhber also praised Iraq's effective and wise stance on regional and international issues, including Israel's war in the Gaza Strip over the past eight months.
The Iraqi president, for his part, extended his congratulations to Mokhber over the Muslim festivity of Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
Rashid said the Iraqi government strives to improve relations with Iran in all fields, emphasizing that strengthening cooperation is a necessity to serve the two countries' interests.
He also expressed hope that the Iranian government and nation will successfully hold the June 28 presidential election.
The Iraqi president visited Tehran in May to pay tribute to late President Raeisi and his companions, who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in May.
Rashid expressed Baghdad's determination to further improve relations with Tehran, saying his country will take all the necessary measure in this regard.
Rashid’s visit to Tehran came a few days after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani visited Tehran to meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and attend the funeral procession of Raeisi and his companions.
On May 19, the helicopter carrying Raeisi and his entourage crashed in a mountainous and forested region in Iran's East Azarbaijan Province. Their bodies were found the following day after a massive search operation.
