At least six people have died at a bustling Sydney shopping center after they succumbed to injuries inflicted by a man armed with a knife, later shot and killed by a policewoman.

The incident occurred at 3:20 pm on Saturday in Sydney’s Bondi Junction, where a man wearing an NRL jersey started attacking random shoppers with a knife.

As of now, six individuals have been reported dead and several others have sustained injuries.

Several people were stabbed during the horror as panicked families ran for their lives, despite being in a country having some of the world’s toughest gun and knife laws.

The perpetrator was brought down on Saturday by a solitary bullet to the torso following his interaction with a group of nine individuals at the bustling Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center.

Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese said the attack "beyond words or understanding".
