The increase in attacks on US military bases in the region is because the events unfolding in the besieged Gaza Strip are not unrelated to the Axis of Resistance, says an Iraqi political commentator.
Imad Al-Musafer, in a conversation with the Press TV website, discussed the recent spurt in attacks on US occupation military bases in Iraq and Syria amid the Israeli-American aggression on Gaza.
He emphasized that recent events in the besieged coastal strip are closely being followed by the Axis of Resistance, which includes the Iraqi resistance groups, as Palestine lies at the heart of this axis.
The most important thing that the Iraqi resistance is doing, he noted, is to expel American forces from the Arab country and the region and fight against the usurping Zionist regime.
The death toll in the Gaza Strip since October 7, when the Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation against the occupying entity, has surged to more than 11,000, mostly children.
The Israeli regime has been indiscriminately bombarding densely populated civilian areas in Gaza, targeting even jampacked hospitals, schools, universities, and places of worship.
Musafer said the Iraqi resistance firmly stands behind the Palestinian resistance and both have shared goals – the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the exit of US forces from the region.
He emphasized that the attacks by the Iraqi resistance groups on the US military bases did not start all of a sudden but that the resistance considers it as “one of its priorities.”
The Iraqi analyst said the decision to expel the US-led occupation forces from the Arab country was taken by the country’s parliament after the assassination of top anti-terror commanders, Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in January 2020.
The Iraqi resistance has repeatedly warned the occupation forces to leave the country or face attacks.
Musafer said the events in Gaza in the wake of the Israeli regime’s genocidal attacks prompted the resistance groups in Iraq to scale up attacks on the US military bases “so that a unified action could be taken by the Axis of Resistance,” pointing to the Israeli-American complicity in the Gaza genocide.
He stressed that the regional resistance groups “cannot remain indifferent” to these crimes committed by the Zionist regime with the full backing of the “arrogant powers”, especially the United States.
On the Iraqi government’s position on the developments in Gaza, the analyst said it is based on popular positions and political spectrums in the country, which is firmly in devour of the Palestinian nation.
During his visit to Tehran last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the Al-Aqsa Storm was the outcome of Israel’s years of criminal policies against the people of Palestine, including the killing of civilians, forced displacement, illegal settlement and the desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque.
He emphasized that those who seek to prevent the war spillover must push the Israeli regime to stop its crime and organized genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
