Saudi Arabia has denounced any ground invasion of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli regime that may further threaten the lives of Palestinian civilians, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged enclave.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry made the appeal in a statement on Saturday, saying the kingdom is following with great concern the escalating Israeli violence against Palestinians in Gaza.
The ministry went on to say that it condemns any ground military operation by the regime forces in Gaza that may expose the lives of Palestinian civilians to more dangers and inhumane conditions.
Saudi Arabia further warned of the danger of continuing “blatant and unjustified violations of international law” against Palestinians, saying it has serious repercussions for the stability of the region as well as regional and international peace and security.
It also urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to secure an immediate truce in Gaza based on the UN resolution adopted a day earlier “to spare the blood of innocent people, preserve infrastructure and vital interests, respect international humanitarian law, and enable humanitarian and relief organizations to deliver urgent and necessary humanitarian aid to civilians” in the blockaded enclave without obstacles.
On Friday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution, calling for the implementation of an immediate "humanitarian truce" in Gaza.
The vote at the General Assembly came after the United Nations Security Council failed four times to take action due to the US's recurrently casting its veto against relevant resolutions.
The latest development comes as Israel is continuing its genocide campaign against the Palestinians in Gaza despite the UN General Assembly’s resolution against the war crimes of the occupying regime in the besieged enclave.
On October 7, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched its biggest operation against Israel in years in a surprise offensive, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.
Since then, Israel has pressed ahead with a relentless bombardment of Gaza. The death toll in Gaza since the start of Israeli aggression has reached over 7,400 with more than 20,500 wounded.
Tel Aviv has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the besieged territory into a humanitarian crisis.
