Putin to meet Xi in Beijing, Israel's war on Gaza on agenda
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart and "dear friend" Xi Jinping are set to meet at a summit in Beijing on Wednesday.
The meeting between the two powerful leaders comes as China hosts representatives of 140 countries for a forum on President Xi's vast trade and infrastructure Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
"During the talks, special attention will be paid to international and regional issues," the Kremlin said in a statement, without elaborating.
The two leaders are expected to discuss Israel’s relentless bloody bombardment of the besieged Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Both China and Russia have condemned Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians and have called for a ceasefire.
Their stance, however, stands in contrast to that of the president of the United States, who has made clear his support for the occupying regime is unwavering and has signaled he does not feel this is the appropriate moment for a ceasefire
The meeting between Putin and Xi comes as it was confirmed Joe Biden would travel to Israel on Wednesday "to hear from Israel what it needs to defend its people as we continue to work with Congress to meet those needs."
Biden is expected to give a high-profile show of support for the regime at a time when nearly 3,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli bombardments since October 7.
Biden has also said on Sunday, “I guarantee we’re gonna provide them everything they need."
About 10,500 Palestinians have also been injured in the Israeli onslaught. Hospitals in Gaza are running vitally low on medicines and equipment. People in Gaza face an acute shortage of water, fuel and power due to the Israeli savagery.
Israel launched its offensive after Palestinian resistance fighters began Operation al-Aqsa Storm on October 7 in response to the occupying regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodshed and destruction against the Palestinians.
