US-, UK-backed 1953 coup

Saturday marked the anniversary of 1953 coup in Iran led by the United States against Iran’s then democratically-elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq with the help of Britain’s MI6.

The coup led to the overthrow of Mosaddeq's government 70 years ago and changed equations in West Asia forever. In 2013, CIA formally admitted to its role in the coup by declassifying documents on the putsch, something the UK is yet to admit.

In this edition of the Spotlight program, we will look at the ramifications of this coup and how the US in particular is still committing this illegal act.
