‘Israel behind Qur'an desecration’
Iran says Israel is to blame for the recent sacrilegious acts against the Holy Qur’an in Europe. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has agreed to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the desecration in Sweden and Denmark. Kan'ani said the OIC's ministerial meeting will take place virtually on Monday. Following the sacrilege, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called for an OIC meeting in phone conversations with his counterparts in some Islamic countries. Meanwhile, the UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution in the wake of the desecration of the Qur’an. The resolution deplores all acts of profanity against holy books as a violation of international law.
Homelessness in UK
Official figures released by UK media show the number of homeless people across Britain has hit a record high amid soaring inflation. Data by the Department for Leveling Up, Housing and Communities show some 105-thousand households were in temporary accommodation in March. That includes more than 131-thousand children. The figure surpasses a previous high of 101-thousand reached in 2004, and is the highest since records began in 1998. Data also indicate that almost 14-thousand households were in hotels or bed and breakfasts in the three months to March. The figure comes against the backdrop of a cost-of-living crisis in England. High rates of inflation have left people struggling to pay for essentials and meet rapidly rising rental prices.
Children plight in Sudan
The devastating situation of children in Sudan has alarmed UN Children's Agency as the conflict hits the 100-day mark in the African country. UNICEF has warned that the severe violation of children’s rights has past an average of more than one instance an hour. A UNICEF official who recently visited the war-torn country has described the impact of war on children as quote "beyond comprehension". At least 435 minors have been killed and more than two thousand injured in over three months of conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Reports say 14-million children are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. This as the number of internally displaced children has nearly doubled to three-point-six million due to the conflict. The children remain subject to abduction, recruitment into armed groups and gender-based violence.
