Iran’s development of neighborly ties will soon yield positive results: Ambassador

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (2 R) shakes hands with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on June 22, 2023.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) says the favorable results of Tehran’s neighborliness policy will soon come to light.

“Following a period of relatively strained ties, relations between Iran and the UAE have been activated with the exchange of ambassadors. We are witnessing new developments within the course of such relations,” Reza Ameri said on Saturday.

He noted that the two countries have decided to have warmer relations in light of regional and international developments.

The Iranian ambassador also said he has observed a strong will among Emirati officials for the expansion of all-out relations with Iran ever since he was appointed to the post in March, expressing hope for further enhancement of ties between the two Muslim nations given the existing potential.

Asked to comment on Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahaian’s visit to the UAE, Ameri said the trip was the fruit of Iran’s special attention to the improvement of relations with neighbors, and was made at the end of a tour of four Arab states in the Persian Gulf region.

“Dr. Amir-Abdollahian had very useful meetings with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, and his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Bilateral relations, as well as leading regional and international issues, were discussed, and Iran’s preparedness for unconditional development of ties with the UAE was highlighted as well,” the Iranian ambassador said.

“Agreements were made to activate some mechanisms, including the joint economic commission which hopefully will be implemented in the near future. We believe such trips can definitely help the other side clarify its views,” Ameri underscored.

In a Friday post on his Instagram account, Amir-Abdollahian called for the establishment of a joint mechanism for dialogue and cooperation among Persian Gulf states.

He emphasized the need to form a joint mechanism for dialogue and cooperation between all Persian Gulf countries.

“A better, safer and more prosperous future is the common right of all our nations and the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to double its efforts for this purpose,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

“Given the importance of neighbors in the foreign policy of our country and in order to strengthen the policy of neighborliness of the 13th administration, shortly after hosting the Saudi foreign minister and the fruitful talks in Tehran, I headed to the 4 countries of Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in the south of the Persian Gulf,” Amir-Abdollahian stated.

“Negotiation with the high-ranking officials and my counterparts in these countries were highly positive and constructive and was promising for all countries in both the north and south of the strategic region of the Persian Gulf. The talks also heralded a ‘better, safer and more prosperous future’ for the people among whom the bonds of friendship, compassion and kinship are so deep and strong,” he stated.
