Iran diplomacy

Tehran says it has never left the negotiations for removal of sanctions and will continue talks with parties to the 2015 nuclear deal. The foreign ministry spokesman says, however, that any such discussions must be in line with Iran’s national interests and a 2020 parliamentary law on the issue. That is dubbed the law on strategic action for removal of sanctions. Nasser Kan’ani also confirmed indirect talks with parties to the 2015 agreement, but rejected media speculation on an interim deal to replace the pact. Separately, Kan’ani said talks on a prisoner swap with the US are underway through liaisons. The spokesman said, however, that success of the talks in the near future depends on the will of other parties.

UK Ruling Party divisions

Divisions among the British conservative party deepen as Prime minister Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson fight over the ex-PM’s honors list. Johnson's political honors list was published on Friday, rewarding his allies to join the House of Lords. But the failure to feature several expected names prompted accusations from the former prime minister. Sunak's spokesman said it was entirely untrue that the prime minister or officials removed names from Johnson's list. Sunak himself said he had rejected a plea from Johnson to overrule an independent body and allow some of his allies to join parliament's upper house. Johnson has dismissed the claims as rubbish. He added, it was not necessary to overrule the House of Lords committee to honor his list. Two of Johnson's allies who were not rewarded both resigned from parliament on Friday and Saturday, triggering by-elections.

Push for de-dollarization

Pakistan pays for its first import of discounted Russian crude in Chinese Yuan, amid attempts worldwide to ditch the US dollar in trade. The cargo, carrying, 45,000 metric tons of crude oil, arrived in the southern city of Karachi on Sunday. The shipment was arranged under a deal struck between Islamabad and Moscow in April. This is the first Russian oil cargo to the South Asian country and marks a significant shift in Pakistan's dollar-dominated payments policy. Pakistan has been reeling from a severe economic crisis, resulting in a shortage of foreign currency to pay for fuel imports.
