On February 5, Pervez Musharraf- the four-star general who ruled Pakistan for nearly a decade- died in Dubai after a prolonged illness.
He was 79 years old. Musharraf, who had been living in self-imposed exile in Dubai since 2016, seized power from former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a bloodless military coup in 1999.
For many of his critics, Musharraf was a typical military dictator. For others, he was a man who tried to restore the countrys image as a beacon of enlightened moderation.
