A leading activist has depicted the Russia-Ukraine war as Washington's proxy war, whose rumblings began in 1991 when NATO promised Gorbachev not to advance an inch.
Ken Stone, a member of “Hamilton coalition to stop the war” told Press TV that Moscow tried to avoid war with Kiev for about 30 years, but when it saw Ukraine, along with the United States and NATO, were trying to overthrow the Russian Federation, it inevitably entered into the direct military confrontation.
“Over the past 30 years, NATO expanded 800 kilometers and took in 14 former Soviet republics and Warsaw Pact states then in 2014 the US and NATO with the connivance of Canada as well staged a coup in Ukraine and put into Power a hunter that was riddled with Nazis and which launched a war against the Russian-speaking people in the Donbas,” Stone said.
He went on to say that despite what is being shown about the conflicts, it’s a real proxy war between the United States and Russia.
The only thing which is not important for the US in the war is the lives of the Ukrainian people, and Washington “will fight to the very last Ukrainian,” Stone stressed.
“Instead of upgrading and sending more military equipment, more men, and more funding to Ukraine, the countries of the West should be looking to sit down and negotiate an end to the conflict,” he added.
Since the start of Russia’s “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine, the Western military alliance of NATO has strengthened its presence in Eastern Europe with fighter jets, surveillance planes, and aerial tankers.
Moscow has seized around a fifth of Ukraine’s expanse in its south and east. It has conditioned negotiations on a possible end to the military campaign on Ukraine’s recognition of Russian rule over the seized territories.
