On Wednesday morning, Palestinians woke up to the tragic news of the brutal killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the Jenin refugee camp.
Abu Akleh was killed after being shot in the head while covering Israeli army raids in the northern occupied West Bank.
Her killing drew angry reactions and condemnations in Palestine and around the world.
Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, condemned in the strongest terms Israel’s killing of the Palestinian journalist.
Shireen Abu Akleh’s extrajudicial killing is further evidence of a trend by Israeli regime forces to systematically attack journalists.
During the 11-day war in 2021, Israeli warplanes bombed several buildings in Gaza housing media companies and news channels.
Statistic show that Israeli regime forces have killed some 50 Palestinian journalists during the last 22 years.
During the Great March of Return, Israeli snipers shot and killed two Gazan journalists and injured dozens more.
