Vienna talks
Iran says it is committed to reaching a good deal in the shortest possible time during the Vienna talks, but won’t be hamstrung by artificial deadlines. A source close to the Iranian negotiating team in Vienna underlined that such deadlines will not change Iran’s red lines. The same source added Iranian negotiators are going to Vienna firm and prepared for the next round of talks, and will stay there as long as needed. The source said now the ball is in the court of the other parties to the talks to show their good faith with regards to sanctions-related issues. Iran and the remaining signatories to the 2015 deal have held several rounds of talks this year with the main focus on the lifting of US sanctions. The eighth round kicks off on December 27, 2021.
Israeli crimes condemned
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says his country won’t abandon Palestine and urged the international community as well as governments not to leave Palestinians alone. Speaking to Lebanon’s al Mayadeen news network, Maduro also denounced Israel’s aggression against the Palestinian people. He noted that Tel Aviv will pay for what he called its indescribable crimes against the Palestinians. The Venezuelan president also expressed support for Syria. He said he's confident that the Arab country will rise once again under President Bashar al-Assad in the next few years.
Omicron impact
The outbreak of the new variant of the coronavirus is casting a shadow on the Christmas holidays and affecting millions of travelers. On Sunday alone over 7,000 flights worldwide were canceled over Omicron fears and staff shortages. Chinese airlines accounted for most of the scrapped flights. Stormy weather conditions are making matters even worse for US airports that saw nearly 1,000 flights canceled and 8,500 others delayed. It’s been the third day that the fast-spreading Omicron variant has been disrupting holiday travel.
