At least eleven people, inducing five members of one family, have been killed in Mexico in separate incidents after armed assailants stormed two houses, reports said on Monday.
Unidentified gunmen barged inside a house in the municipality of Apaseo el Grande, killing five members of a family, on Saturday, the state public prosecutor said on Sunday.
Local media said three women, one man and a 14-year-old girl — all presumed to be related — were found dead from gunshot wounds.
An 8-month-old baby was also wounded in the assault. The baby was taken to a hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to the arm, according to authorities.
In the nearby city of Silao, police said gunmen killed three men, two women and a child, in another home, on Saturday.
The central state of Guanajuato has become one of the most violent in Mexico, where drug gangs have long been fighting turf battles.
The latest killings came days after a journalist was killed in a beach resort town of Acapulco.
The journalist, Alfredo Cardoso, succumbed to his injuries late last month, two days after he was shot by unidentified assailants after abducting him from his home.
Cardoso became the second Mexican journalist to be killed last month.
Fredy Lopez, a radio broadcaster who contributed to several local, national and foreign media outlets, was also shot dead near his home in San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas state.
Mexico is awash with American weapons as cross-border trafficking has created a growing pool of weapons that circulate among armed groups in the North American country.
