Call for sanctions removal
Iran’s deputy foreign minister has told Press TV that the removal of sanctions will be the main focus of the upcoming talks with the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal. Bagheri Kani says Iran has a strong logic based on which it has entered negotiations. The top Iranian negotiator says the Islamic Republic has been committed to the nuclear deal. He believes some parties are either by violating the agreement or failing to live up to their obligations. The talks are expected to resume in late November. Iran and the remaining signatories to the pact have conducted six rounds of negotiations in Vienna with the aim of removing anti-Iran sanctions.
US Afghanistan pullout fallout
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says the United States’ chaotic withdrawal and the fleeing of former Afghan officials set the breeding ground for terrorist groups like Daesh in Afghanistan. The top Pakistani diplomat was speaking with Press TV. He said terrorism is one of the main challenges facing Afghanistan today. Qureshi said Islamabad does not want to see Daesh footprints expanding in the region, adding a coordinated approach is needed to address the problem. International assistance, Qureshi said, can help prevent the economic collapse of Afghanistan. The Pakistani foreign minister said his country has not agreed to allow the US to use its airspace for intelligence and military operations against Afghanistan. Regarding Iran, he said Tehran and Islamabad have recently increased their cooperation to stop terrorist attacks near their joint borders.
Sudan military coup
Protests against Sudan's military coup have entered a fourth day in defiance of a harsh security crackdown. Protesters rebuilt barricades demolished by security forces during the overnight unrest. They hit the streets despite killings and mass arrests by the military in previous days. Health officials say at least seven people have been killed in the capital Khartoum and its sister city of Omdurman. Civilian officials have promised disobedience in response to the Monday coup. The military has declared a state of emergency and says it has assumed power to avoid a civil war. Sudan has been in political turmoil since long-time ruler Omar al-Bashir was ousted in 2019.
