The majority of Americans taking part in a new poll believe that the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 protest at the the Capitol is biased.
According to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, 58 percent of the voters said the investigation is biased and 42 percent said it was fair.
"Americans want an examination of the riots over the summer and the origins of the virus over investigating Jan. 6th," said Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey.
The members of the select committee have been handpicked by House Democratic speaker Nancy Pelosi, Republicans have argued.
"The voters reject the Pelosi move to toss Republicans off of the committee and see it now as just a partisan exercise,” Penn said.
The California Democrat has only assigned two Republicans to the committee, Rep. Adam Kinzinger from Illinois and Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming,, both of whom are staunch critics of former President Donald Trump.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement last month.
The GOP is working hard to discredit the investigation, in the hope of preventing it from incriminating the former president.
The latest poll is a reflection of the Republicans’ talking point in favor of the billionaire businessman.
His supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 in an attempt to stop lawmakers certifying the victory of now-President Joe Biden.
