Iran Armed Forces stress correlation between high voter turnout, natl. security

Iran’s Armed Forces have invited people to participate en masse in the upcoming presidential election, saying a high turnout in the key vote will boost the Islamic establishment’s reputation on the global stage and guarantee the country’s security against enemy conspiracies.

In a statement issued on Thursday, on the eve of the passing anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces said the June 18 presidential election would be yet another “great litmus test” for the Iranian nation.

The statement said a “vigorous” election would “put on display the legitimacy and favorability of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s establishment in the global arena and increase [the country’s] power and national dignity, besides [helping] to resolve the people’s economic and livelihood problems and strengthening the foundation of religious democracy.”

It also called on those active on the country’s political scene to set the stage for a massive turnout of eligible voters in the election.

The Armed Forces invited people from all walks of life to “have an epic, magnificent presence in the presidential election and renew allegiance with the ideals of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.”

‘Vigorous turnout to protect Iran against enemy plots’

The Armed Forces’ Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also marked Imam Khomeini’s departure anniversary with a separate statement on Thursday.

The IRGC highlighted the “major role” that the nation has played in the growth of the Islamic Revolution and said the “lasting security” that Iran enjoys today relies on the same people.

The elite military forces pointed to the June 18 presidential election and said the Iranians are gearing up for creating another “magnificent” epic in the forthcoming “historical test.”

Taking note of Imam Khomeini’s advice for the nation to stand by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and stay “present on the scene,” there is today more need than ever for the people to go to the ballot boxes to “protect the country against any harm and enemy plot,” the IRGC added.
