At least two people have been shot at a fire station in the US, including a firefighter who succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the shooting was reported at 10:53 am local time at Los Angeles County Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce, Southern California, on Tuesday.
The suspected shooter is apparently on the run and believed to be an employee at the fire department. There were also reports that the shooter had ended his own life.
“It is with heavy hearts that the LACoFD confirms that a tragic shooting occurred at approximately 10:55 a.m. today at FS 81 in Agua Dulce,” the LA County Fire Department said in a tweet. “The Dept. is still in the process of gathering additional information & are cooperating with law enf. throughout this ongoing incident.”
The suspect’s house was also said to be on fire and a fire helicopter had been dispatched to make a water drop.
"I stand here with a heavy heart," said county Fire Chief Daryl Osby at an afternoon briefing. "Today is truly a sad day and a tragic day for the Los Angeles County Fire Department."
