Fired AP journalist: I will not be intimidated into silence, I will be back soon

Emily Wilder, a 2020 graduate of Stanford University, who was fired from her job at The Associated Press over past social media posts related to her criticism of Israel and support for Palestine.

A female journalist fired by The Associated Press over her criticism of Israel and support for the people of Palestine, says she will not be intimidated into silence and will continue to support Palestine.

Emily Wilder, a Stanford University graduate, made the remarks in a statement issued on Saturday, where she gave a full account of how and why she was laid off by The Associated Press following “a smear campaign” launched against her by “the Stanford College Republicans.”

The US news agency, headquartered in New York City, relieved Wilder of her duties after she had been targeted by extremist, Zionist media outlets for her pro-Palestinian activism in college days.

“I am one victim to the asymmetrical enforcement of rules around objectivity and social media that has censored so many journalists – particularly Palestinian journalists and other journalists of color – before me,” Wilder, 22, said in a statement posted on her Twitter account.

She stressed that the compassion that drove her activism was part of what led her to be a reporter committed to “just, critical, fact-based coverage of under-told stories.”

Furthermore, the young journalist lambasted the AP for clearly bowing to a smear campaign mounted by Stanford College Republicans over her pro-Palestinian activism and cast grave doubt on the so-called free and unbiased reporting, which is openly boasted by the news agency.

“What future does it promise to aspiring reporters that an institution like the Associated Press would sacrifice those with the least power to the cruel trolling of a group of anonymous bullies? What does it mean for this industry that even sharing the painful experiences of Palestinians or interrogating the language we use to describe them can be seen as irredeemably ‘biased’?”, Wilder asked.

She also said that she never received a clear answer from the AP as to why she was terminated beyond vague, unsupported claims that she allegedly violated the news agency’s social media policy.

“I will not be intimidated into silence,” Wilder said in closing. “I will be back soon.”

This week, Zionist media outlets published stories about Wilder, highlighting her past criticism on social media of the Israeli regime and of Zionists, including Sheldon Adelson – the dead billionaire and mega financer of the Republican Party.

She had previously worked with the newspaper the Arizona Republic.

The development came as the Israeli regime killed at least 248 Palestinians, including 66 children, in the besieged Gaza Strip during a 12-day war against the impoverished enclave. More than 1,900 people were also wounded as a result of the brutal aggression, which began on May 10.

Gaza’s resistance groups, including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, responded to the aggression on the same day that it started targeting the enclave.

Throughout the offensive, the groups fired more than 4,000 rockets towards the Israeli-occupied areas. The projectiles swept the entire expanse of the territories, many flying as far as Tel Aviv, the holy occupied city of al-Quds, and even the northern-lying cities of Haifa and Nazareth.

The Palestinian rockets also killed 12 in the Israeli-occupied territories.

The Israeli regime finally gave in to a ceasefire on Friday, incapable of stopping the resistance’s rocket avalanche.
