The fifth and final day of registration of presidential hopefuls in Iran was the busiest one. Early in the morning, Ali Larijani, who severed as a Parliament speaker for 12 years, came to the Interior Ministry’s Hall to hand in his credentials.
Judiciary Chief Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi also announced his. Raeisi has served at different judiciary posts, among other positions, after the Islamic Revolution.
To make the contest more heated, the Reformists also unveiled their final pick: Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.
More senior Reformists like the son of late Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani also signed up. Iran’s ex-president of the IRIB, Seyyed Ezzatollah Zarghami also filed his application.
In the final minutes of the registration another famous Principlist figure entered the scene: Sa’eed Jalili, a former nuclear negotiator and an advisor to Iran’s leader. A number of other hopefuls from both camps as well as some independent ones also registered on the final day.
