Facebook 'restrictive policies' 

A human rights organization has denounced Facebook for shutting down Press TV’s page, calling on the social media platform to reverse its decision. Skyline International for Human Rights said the move is in violation of the corporate human rights policies recently announced by Facebook. The group said the social media giant is assessing content based on political standards. Skyline International said Facebook has adopted the policies of countries in which it has regional or main offices. It called on Facebook to abide by international freedom of opinion, expression and publication rules for companies. Facebook shut down Press TV’s account on Friday, accusing the Iranian news channel of failing to follow its Community Standards. Facebook has said the move cannot be reversed.

Withdrawal of US troops 

An Iraqi lawmaker says parliament will take a new position if upcoming talks with the US do not lead to the withdrawal of American forces from the country. Kati al-Rikabi is a member of the Iraqi parliament’s security and defense committee. He said there has been no firm statement from US officials on the withdrawal of American forces, since the Iraqi parliament called for the pullout. He said, that is concerning. Iraqi lawmakers voted for the pullout of American forces in January 2020. That came after a US drone strike near Baghdad killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and senior Iraqi commander Abu Mehdi al-Muhandis. Iraqis have held protests on various occasions against the presence of US forces in their country.

Myanmar crackdown 

Myanmar security forces have opened fire on mourners gathering for the funeral of one of the 114 people killed by the ruling junta Saturday. There has been no immediate word on casualties from the attack at the funeral in the town of Bago. But, reports say security forces have killed two people in anti-coup rallies in other parts of the country. Saturday marked the bloodiest day of the rallies since Myanmar’s military coup on February the first. The UN special rapporteur for Myanmar has accused the army of carrying out mass murder. At least 440 people have been killed since the army seized power and detained de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The army claimed voter fraud in November’s elections won by Suu Kyi’s party.
