Afghans get ready to mark ancient Nowruz festival

Based on Afghan traditions, preparations are made by people a few days ahead of the arrival of an ancient festival known as Nowruz festival.
Afghans see the ancient Nowruz festival as an important part of their own culture and traditions. That is why they actively prepare themselves to mark it amid security threats mainly coming from the Daesh terrorist group.
Afghans have their own customs to welcome Nowruz, buying new clothes, and preparing some special dried and fresh fruits and local dishes.
The ancient occasion also creates an opportunity for individuals to fix broken ties, forgive others, forget about the past, and build stronger relations in the coming new year.
The Afghan government, however, has pledged to properly manage and protect all Nowruz-marking ceremonies.
Most Afghans regard Nowruz as a cultural event that is part of their history. However, some extremist groups, such as Daesh, say the age-old tradition runs counter to Islamic precepts. But religious figures here strongly reject that claim.
