Italy's Mount Etna back in action, spewing smoke
Large plumes of smoke rose from Mount Etna on Friday (March 12) as Europe's most active volcano was back in action again.
Video shot between 8 a.m. to midday (0700-1100 GMT) showed the volcano spewing ash and large clouds of smoke into the sky over the surrounding villages.
The southeastern crater is at the epicenter of the activity that started on Feb. 16 and has caused activity from the volcano multiple times in the past three weeks.
At the end of February, the INGV told Reuters that overall Etna's activity was similar to the more than 200 eruptions seen since 1998 and there was no risk for the people and cities around the mountain.
The 3,330-meter-high volcano on Sicily can burst into action several times a year.
The last major eruption was in 1992.
