Madrid pushed for the equalizer and with a minute left, Vinicius Junior fired a Lucas Vazquez cross into the net to help his side avoid defeat.
With the stalemate, Los Blancos remain third on 53 points, level with second-placed Barcelona, as the two clubs are five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand.
Sociedad are 5th, on 42 points.
