US unlikely to soften Venezuela’s sanctions regime: Analyst

The United States is unlikely to soften the sanctions regime on Venezuela as the bans serve its economic interests in the Latin American country, says author and Professor of Economics David Barkin.

“Unfortunately, the cold war notion of what’s happening in Venezuela and the very, very strong economic interests of the United States – the oil interests—and the desire on the part of the US to take over the Venezuelan properties in the United States are militating against a softening of the (sanctions) regime,” he told Press TV.
