US President Joe Biden has been urged to dismiss officials at the US Postal Service who remained silent as former President Donald Trump was trying to overturn the results of the November 3 presidential election.

"Today, I am calling on President Biden to fire the entire Postal Board of Governors for their silence and complicity in trump and dejoy’s attempts to subvert the election and destroy the Post Office," Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) tweeted, referring to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

The fierce Trump critic also wrote a letter, asserting that the board of governors of the United States postal service "sat silent" while DeJoy implemented "efforts to dismantle mail sorting machines, cut overtime, restrict deliveries, and remove mailboxes.”

"The board members' refusal to oppose the worst destruction ever inflicted on the Postal Service was a betrayal of their duties and unquestionably constitutes good cause for their removal," Pascrell wrote.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has refused to comment on the issue.

"I'm not sure I have an answer for you," Psaki told reporters Monday.

Democrats are stepping up pressure on the former president over his role in the Jan. 6 breach of the Capitol, which left several people dead.

Trump has also been accused of attempts to overturn the election results; he has also refused to acknowledge Biden as the US president.
