In a rare case, the second in Yemen in the past three years, a pair of conjoined twins were born in Al Sabeen Hospital in Yemeni capital, Sana'a.
The two children are in critical condition and need to be treated outside the country, which is impossible due to the continued siege and the closure of Sana'a airport to the Yemenis.
The Director of the Health Bureau called on the United Nations and the World Health Organization to send a plane to transport the two children, or to send a medical team to conduct the surgery inside Yemen, where devastated and under-resourced health services cannot offer any help to these children.
Infants suffer a difficult situation in Yemen in the absence of essential medical supplies and healthcare facilities, needed for their survival and well being. Yemeni health services have been in a dire situation since the start of the Saudi-led war on the country in 2015.
With the new year fast approaching, the Sana'a airport remains closed to sick children and women, causing the loss of many lives. The airport is open to United Nations airplanes only.
