The European Union will decide on invoking sanctions against Turkey over tensions in eastern Mediterranean earlier this week.

The final decision will be made on Thursday upon recommendations from a meeting of the EU foreign ministers.

Brussels has been involved in the dispute between Turkey and Greece for a while now since Ankara sent a search vessel to a zone of contention in August. The move enraged the government in Athens.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is pushing for dialogue between the conflicting parties as well as Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus.

The dispute is over eastern Mediterranean underwater energy resources.

Many say it is not easy for the EU to act against Turkey for several reasons, including a refugee deal and trade ties.
