Irans Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, during an official visit at the invitation of China. During their Saturday meeting in China's southwestern Tengchong city, the two officials reaffirmed their commitments to the landmark 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal, in an apparent rebuke to the United States for withdrawing from the accord two years ago. Following the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Ministry released a statement, calling for the creation of a new forum to defuse tensions in West Asia.
