US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she intends to discuss a constitutional measure on Friday in order to remove President Donald Trump from office.
Pelosi made the dramatic announcement during her weekly press conference Thursday when she was asked about Trump's health as he recovers from the coronavirus.
The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president to become acting president if it becomes clear that the president "is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office."
"Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, come here tomorrow," Pelosi told reporters. "We're going to be talking about the 25th Amendment."
Pelosi, however, declined to provide an explicit answer to a question about whether she believes it was time to invoke the 25th Amendment, but hinted the discussion was tied to what she described as a lack of transparency from the White House over Trump’s health.
Trump “is, shall we say, in an altered state right now” and “the disassociation from reality would be funny if it weren’t so deadly,” she added while wearing a mask.
On October 1, Trump announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and a day after was admitted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. However, he left the hospital on Monday and went back to the White House.
Landing at the White House on Marine One, Trump removed his face mask and declared he feels great.
Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has said, however, “You are not out of it until you have gone several days out and [are] doing well.”
Trump had repeatedly disagreed with Fauci on COVID-19, including social-distancing guidelines and masks wearing, calling the doctor as “a little bit of an alarmist.”
Later on Thursday, the Republican president took to Twitter, calling Pelosi a “crazy” person who herself should be under observation.

Pelosi had earlier put into question the status of the president’s health, as well as exactly how long he has had the coronavirus.
“I think that the public needs to know the health condition of the President," Pelosi said. "There's one question that he refused to answer … when was his last negative test?" Pelosi said that this information is necessary in order to “make a judgment about the actions that were taken after that.”
"Let us see a date, a time when you last tested negative," she added.
The 25th amendment would enable Pelosi to create a panel to assess the president’s ability to perform his duties, however, the House could not remove Trump from office without the agreement of Vice President Mike Pence and members of the cabinet, who have not said anything about whether such a move is imminent.
