Chile police disperse protesters demanding new constitution ahead of vote

Chileans take to the streets of Santiago to vent anger over inequality and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera's government, trading rocks with tear gas and water cannons used by riot police.

Chilean police fire water cannons as some demonstrators throw stones during a protest staged at the iconic Plaza Italia square, where Santiago residents continue to gather every Friday against the government and to demand a new constitution, ahead of a referendum set for October 25 that may clear the way for its re-write.
