After months of political turmoil in Mali, last August a military coup ended a tumultuous rule of Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

A dejected Keita appeared on the country’s national television after being forced to resign as Malian president after being detained on Tuesday in a coup launched by mutinous troops.

Last August, Africa achieved a major health milestone. The Africa Regional Certification Commission certified the WHO African Region as wild polio-free after four years without a case.
