Novak Djokovic has reached a record-equalling eighth Western and Southern Open semi-final after beating German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 6-1 at Grandstand court of New York.
World number one Djokovic took advantage of a series of errors by Struff to grab control of the match and closed out the 62-minute encounter with a love service break to extend his unbeaten run to 24 matches.
With the win, Djokovic tied Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, Roger Federer and Bill Talbert's semi-final totals at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Djokovic will attempt to reach his seventh Western & Southern Open final when he meets Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals.
The Serbian is now two wins away from creating further history at the tournament. He will equal Rafael Nadal’s record haul of 35 Masters 1000 trophies if the 33-year-old lifts the cup on Friday.
