NBA: Heat top Pacers 124-115, take 3-0 series lead

In the NBA, the Miami Heat are keeping the heat on, and are just one win away from sweeping aside the Indiana Pacers, following a 124 to 115 victory that gave them a commanding 3-nothing lead in their eastern conference first round playoff series.

The 5th-seeded Heat got off to an excited start, outscoring the Pacers 34 to 27 in the 1st quarter and led by as many as 20 points in the 2nd and then 74 to 56 at the intermission.

The 4th-seeded Pacers began making a comeback in the 3rd, reducing the deficit to just 4 points by the end of the quarter. The Pacers closed within two on 3 occasions in the final period, but couldn't keep their pace, up enough.

Miami will go for the best-of-seven series sweep showdown on Monday for some chance to move on to the Eastern Semi-finals against either the top-seeded giant killers, Milwaukee Bucks, who are managed by Mike Budenholzer or the 8th-seeded Orlando Magic.

Meanwhile in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers outplayed the Portland Trail Blazers 116 to 108 in game 3 of their first-round series. LeBron James recorded 38 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists to help Los Angeles take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Portland were led by Damian Lillard, who had 34 points and 7 assists. Game 4 is scheduled for Monday. In the other game in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Houston Rockets 119 to 107 in game 3. Oklahoma now trail the series 2-1.
