Trump campaign labels Harris as Biden's 'liberal handler'

The election campaign of US President Donald Trump has labeled Sen. Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic vice-presidential nominee, as Joe Biden’s “liberal handler.”

In two consecutive ads released on Tuesday before and after Biden's introduction of the California senator as his running mate, the Trump campaign attacked Harris over her remarks about medicare, gun reform, etc., calling her a "socialist" candidate.

“Meet phony Kamala Harris. Joe Biden’s new liberal handler,” the ad reads.

Following the first statement, the ad claims that Harris "supports Bernie Sanders’s socialist takeover of your health care" and then shows a clip of Harris saying that “I have always supported Medicare for All.”

It also says that Harris “wants to ban private health insurance plans,” followed by a clip of her saying “Let’s eliminate all that. Let’s move on.”

Meanwhile, within minutes after Biden's announcement, Trump himself zeroed in on Harris, calling her "a liar."

"She was very very nasty, to — one of the reasons that surprised me, she was very — she was probably nastier than even Pocahontas to Joe Biden. She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden, and it's hard to pick somebody that's that disrespectful," Trump said during his Tuesday's press briefing at the White House.

The Republican president also slammed Harris for being “extraordinarily nasty” to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings.

“She was extraordinarily nasty to Kavanaugh, Judge Kavanaugh, now Justice Kavanaugh,” Trump noted. "She was nasty to a level that was just a horrible thing the way she was, the way she treated now-Justice Kavanaugh. And I won’t forget that soon.”

This comes as, according to California's donation records, Trump has donated a total of $6,000 to Harris in 2011 and 2013 when she was running to be California's attorney general.

Harris, the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, will be the first woman of color and also the first Asian American on a major party’s presidential ticket, something that can help Biden secure support among the African American and younger voters.
