US President Donald Trump is "a science, geography, history illiterate," and “he doesn’t accept the science of pandemics and thinks his own ideas and thinking is superior to those who really know their business,” according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.
Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday after has defied calls against holding an election campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to coronavirus risks, stressing that he wants to triple the crowd.
"We have a 22,000 seat arena, but I think we're also going to take the convention hall next door and that's going to hold 40,000," Trump told reporters.
He made the remarks amid warnings from local newspapers and health officials who said the rally risks aggravating coronavirus risks.
The election campaign rally is scheduled for Saturday and comes as Oklahoma is seeing a recent increase in COVID-19 cases.
Tulsa County marked record high numbers of coronavirus infections on Friday and then again on Saturday. It will be Trump’s first in-person rally since the pandemic shutdown began in March.
“Does it really need to be said by now that Trump is a selfish, egotistical narcissist and that he’ll do anything to promote himself regardless of any negative, especially health, consequences?” Hoenig asked.
“Why does he even want to go to Tulsa in the first place? Oklahoma is usually solid Republican so maybe he wants to go only where he can have adoring fans, and most other locations would see protests outside any venue he’d be visiting,” he stated.
“His re-election is in trouble and he knows it. Despite the Democrats putting up his counterpart, a racist, misogynist, demented, right wing idiot with very little appeal to his party’s masses, Trump has met his match with reality. He has screwed up so many major events in his presidency that he knows he has not won over anyone new, but has a solid, albeit, minority, base of support. But even that is eroding and he needs a campaign event to massage his ego and why not Tulsa,” he noted.
“His lack of concern for the health consequences are two-fold. One, the event would promote himself and that’s all he cares about. The second reason is that as a science, geography, history illiterate, he doesn’t accept the science of pandemics and thinks his own ideas and thinking is superior to those who really know their business. He has pushed snake oil treatments for the virus as well as promoted social closeness, not distance. The economy is also in the tank, much to do with his delaying a national program to address the pandemic, not that there is one now. As for many issues, this has been a state by state response, and the party in control often leads depending on which party holds the office of the presidency,” the analyst said.
“Trump is promoting a second wave in Oklahoma and beyond with his visit later this month. The only thing he’ll learn from it is that his adoring fans will literally die for him and that keeps him going,” he concluded.
