Social media giant Twitter is an “operative” of the US State Department, says a political expert amid suspension of the accounts of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

In an interview with Press TV on Tuesday, Rodney Martin, a former congressional staffer based in Los Angeles, tied the temporary suspension to Iran’s battle with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Clearly, Twitter is attempting to silence Iran's effort to get its message out to the world,” Martin said.

The analyst further censured US President Donald Trump’s refusal to lift illegal sanctions on Iran during the pandemic, asserting that the measure amounts to “genocide.”

Twitter is, meanwhile, “allowing a racist and Islamophobic leader like Donald Trump, to tweet at will, some of the most preposterous false statements is a double standard on a level that's been unheard of,” he added.

The Twitter accounts of Ayatollah Khamenei were temporarily shut down on Tuesday morning.

“So Twitter has lost all credibility in terms of fairness in terms of freedom of speech, on the world stage and should be condemned and looked at in a far different light,” Rodney noted.
