Nord Stream controversy
Sanctions placed on companies working in unison with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline have been warned to put down their tools as the United States fear that the pipeline will increase European dependence on Russian gas.
Germany has been quick to condemn the sanctions, stating that the US measures are a direct breach of national and European sovereignty. The German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas as well as the finance minister Olaf Scholz, issued a strongly worded warning against the US, with Scholz calling the actions incomprehensible and improper.
