Lebanon’s president Michel Aoun postponed the awaited parliamentary consultations for the second time.
This time, they were delayed only four days after caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri asked to be given more time to continue talks.
Head of the Finance and Budget House committee considered that concessions need to be made by all sides to save the country from economic collapse. The eve of the anticipated meetings was not very encouraging.
Dozens of people, mainly security personnel were injured after clashes broke out near the parliament. Groups of protesters threw water bottles and firecrackers at security forces who responded with tear gas.
Activists at the demonstration sites stressed that Lebanon’s people are more aware of the need for honest and transparent leaders.
International voices have stressed that the country’s collapsing economy is a risk to both people and politicians.
