Philippines: Protesters rally against Duterte's 'opening up to foreign powers'

Protesters rallied in Manila on Saturday against President Rodrigo Duterte's policies. They accuse him of exposing the economy to the US and China.

Footage shows a group of demonstrators burning a painting on which Duterte is portrayed with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. "I think what Duterte has done, is open up the country to foreign powers, as we have seen how China have sunk the Philippine economy.

So much laws which will eventually be paid by the Filipino people," said Elmer 'Bong' Labog, the national chairperson of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) labour union. "These loans are not really being meant for the public service, as well as social services for the poor people.

And so we think that instead of developing the economy, we're going deeper into crisis," he added.
