Tehran is hosting various events including art exhibitions and seminars to mark the religious endowment week.
It’s the waqf or the endowment week in Iran and as always, the Endowments Charity Affairs Organization has organized different events to mark the annual occasion, including seminars, exhibitions and charity events.
This year, the organization has opened an exhibition of religious endowment relics to the public at the National Museum. The exhibition, dubbed Waqf Heritage, has put on display Quranic and religious manuscripts, documents, books, metalwork objects, rugs and carpets. Located in downtown Tehran, the National Museum is chock-full of priceless relics that represent various eras of the country’s rich history.
A waqf or mortmain property is a charitable endowment under Islamic law, which typically involves donating a building, plot of land or other assets for religious or charitable purposes with no intention of reclaiming the assets.
Officials say similar events are being held across the country, where this charitable tradition is being carried out.
Allocating money and goods to the less unfortunate is a tradition deeply rooted in the history of all religions and cultures. The impoverished, and the ailing or injured, are generally regarded as the proper recipients of charity. Ghanbar Naderi, Press TV, Tehran
