Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah urged the formation of a new government as soon as possible.
In his televised address, he stressed that the new administration must work to regain public trust and listen to the people’s demands.
The Hezbollah leader’s speech came just days after Saad Hariri resigned as prime minister. Nasrallah said he didn’t support the resignation as it could lead the country to a political vacuum. He said the resignation has frozen the government’s reform plans were aimed at fighting corruption and recovering stolen public funds.
Sayyed Nasrallah also accused some groups of playing a destructive role during the protests that erupted on October 17th.
Nasrallah also reiterated that anti-government protesters were entitled to continue their peaceful rallies in the country.
In his speech, Sayyed Nasrallah said the demands of protesters were legitimate and also praised demonstrators for their patience and discipline, saying they helped avoid chaos in the country.
Many have welcomed the Hezbollah leader’s speech, saying it will help bring calm to the country.
Meanwhile, life seems to be returning to normal in Lebanon after almost two weeks of huge protests. On Friday, Lebanese banks reopened their doors to customers for the first since the start of the protests.
