Trumps throws support behind Giuliani amid Ukraine probe

In this AFP file photo taken on November 17, 2016 former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani arrives at the Trump Tower for meetings with US President-elect Donald Trump, in New York.

US President Donald Trump calls his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani “a great guy” as he is being investigated amid the Ukraine scandal.

"So now they are after the legendary 'crime buster' and greatest Mayor in the history of NYC, Rudy Giuliani," Trump tweeted Saturday. "He may seem a little rough around the edges sometimes, but he is also a great guy and wonderful lawyer. Such a one sided Witch Hunt going on in USA. Deep State. Shameful!"

The former mayor of the Big Apple was Trump’s point man in his attempt to pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

As the scandal was engulfing the Trump administration, the White House accidentally sent Ukraine talking points to Democrats and that for a second time.

The points were related to ex-Ukraine ambassador Marie Yovanovitch’s Friday deposition in the House, where an impeachment inquiry is underway.

“We are not concerned with any information Yovanovitch might share, because the President did nothing wrong,” the White House email meant for Republicans said.

It also included attacks on House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.), who is handling the investigation.

“But we are concerned that Schiff is putting her a precarious position by having her testify in secret without State Department lawyers be present,” the email continued. "It raises serious questions about why Schiff is willing to put career officials in such risky situations while bullying them with legally unfounded threats of obstruction charges."

It added that Schiff "is willing to ride roughshod over fair process and to use career officials to further a baseless political objective."
