Hong Kong: Masked protesters march in defiance of ban

Thousands of protesters gathered in the Tsim Sha Tsui district of Hong Kong to march in defiance of a law recently introduced by the local administration prohibiting demonstrators from wearing face masks.

Footage shows masked protesters marching through the streets and some demonstrators handing out face masks. A group of protesters can also be seen vandalising a Starbucks cafe.

The law banning face masks and gatherings of more than three people was invoked by Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam under the emergency ordinance on October 4.

The Emergency Regulations Ordinance law was last applied during riots in 1967 and is seen by anti-government demonstrators as an authoritarian act.
