CIA-linked ‘color revolution’ organizers at work in Hong Kong: Analyst

The ongoing protests in Hong Kong are being promoted by organizations that are funded by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to instigate color revolutions abroad, says an American analyst.

Dennis Etler, political analyst and a former professor of anthropology based in California, said Wednesday that the “black shirts” protests that have recently swept Hong Kong enjoyed support from the US and the UK.

“The ‘black shirts’ are rioters who have subjected the residents of the city to weeks of unrestrained violence, endangering the life and limbs of both police and regular citizens,” Etler told Press TV.

“They are a small minority of disaffected youth, aided and abetted by anti-China Hong Kong oligarchs and the US through its CIA sponsored surrogates like the National Endowment for Democracy, which is tasked with supporting pro-American ‘dissidents’ wherever the US wants to instigate a so-called ‘color revolution’ in the interests of US imperialism,” he said.

Hong Kong plunged into unrest in June and has been the scene of anti-government demonstrations over an extradition bill that would have allowed local authorities to detain and extradite suspects to be tried in courts of mainland China.

With protests gaining further momentum, the government of the Chinese-ruled region effectively backed away from the bill but the rallies persisted, with individuals sometimes resorting to violence and vandalizing government buildings.

China has accused foreign countries, mainly the United States and Britain, of provoking the riots.

Protesters in Hong Kong go on a rampage in the Chinese city, clashing with police and risking an escalation as their acts take increasingly violent forms.

Both London and Washington have called on Beijing to respect the rights of the protesters by allowing them to stay on the streets.

Etler said Wednesday that none of the two were really concerned with human rights in Hong Kong and only used the matter to exert more pressure against China.

He argued that if the US really cared about human rights they would begin by cutting all military aid to Saudi Arabia amid its ongoing war on Yemen.

“Obviously, the US and the UK are not really concerned with either human life or human rights,” the professor said. “They arm and support Saudi Arabia in its genocidal war against the Yemeni people, and they had no qualms in waging war against and dismembering Iraq, Libya and countless other nations who did them no harm. How many have been maimed and murdered by US and UK bombs and bullets over the last decades?”

“The US and UK think that if they slap the brand "pro-democracy" on an anti-government movement it will automatically be seen by a global audience sympathetically,” he added. “But, the world's people are not so naive and no one any longer takes what they say seriously.”
