Iran has welcomed the proposal put forward by Russia to ensure collective security in the Persian Gulf region. The announcement was made on Monday by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during the talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Zarif said Iran is ready to sign a non-aggression pact with the countries of the region. He noted the Islamic Republic stands for freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf area and ensuring energy security.

Zarif added security can be ensured through cooperation and synergy, and not through confrontation. The top diplomat said Iranians welcome the Russian initiative on security in the region. Iran is also ready to sign an agreement, a non-aggression pact with neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf.

As for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Tehran considers Russia and China as its key partners while other signatories of the agreement are not doing enough to save the deal.

During the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also addressed the nuclear deal. He slammed what he called Washington's destructive withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Actio, also known as JCPOA.

Meanwhile Russia supports the initiative of French President Macron on the nuclear deal and hopes that it will bring a positive result. Mohammad Javad Zarif noted that Russia has always supported Iran in difficult situations.

Experts believed Russia can help Iran in a variety of fields including its oil exports.

Experts note that strengthening military cooperation with Russia will allow Iran to withstand hardships created by the U-S administration. The upcoming joint military exercises of Iran and Russia in the Indian Ocean verifies their will.
